New watercolour classes have just started or are about to start: details here.
Would you like a free 'taster' class to see if my art classes are for you? I am offering a free two hour class so that you can try without commitment and without having to buy equipment. This offer will end soon. Please go here for further details or email me here.
I am a professional artist probably best known for illustrating natural history books and magazines but my work can be seen in many best selling publications on wildlife, botany, gardening, cookery and in children's books.
I have illustrated many reference works for publishers throughout the world and I recently completed work on two children's reference books due for publication in May and I am currently working on a number of commission paintings for hanging in public spaces. What with my classes and workshops, I've had a pretty busy year so far.
I have two new books being published on 24 May: The RSPB First Book of Butterflies and Moths; and The RSPB First Book of Trees and I have some original artwork for sale. Please email me for further details of the paintings or signed copies of the books.
Now, when I was at school, I was told by teachers and the careers officer that studying art would get me nowhere and was a waste of time: I should go and work in a shop. But I only ever displayed any real ability in music and art and so it was through my own determination and the support of my parents that I was able to get my art degree and forge a successful career. Unbelievably, this still happens in our education system. So, I was recently thrilled to hear from Samantha Elmhurst who was given the same advice at school but visited my studio in Norwich while working at the cafe below. You can read Samantha's story here and see her work here.
I also use acrylics, but in a very different way to my watercolour work. Inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Suffolk and Norfolk, and in the sunnier vistas of the Aegean. You can see an example of this new work on the Fantastic Landscapes page.
I enjoy teaching and undertake watercolour workshops for beginners and intermediate painters. A new series of day workshops started at the beginning of 2012 at scenic Pin Mill. My regular evening classes take place in Coddenham and Woodbridge and afternoon classes are at Needham Market. Please see the Watercolour Workshops page for further information.
I try to exhibit several times a year and if you would like details of these exhibitions, workshops and other news, please join the mailing list or e-mail me.
Please contact me by e-mail if you require further information or just want to say hello!
